Why I Built MusicForBusinessFinder.com

Why is it easier to book a hotel than to find out if the music playing in your shop is legal?

I'm John Boyle, founder of MusicForBusinessFinder.com. I led the SMB eCommerce division at Mood Media, the company that acquired Muzak, and before that held leadership roles at companies including Expedia, GoDaddy and Matterport.

The longer I worked in music for business, the clearer one thing became: music licensing confuses small business owners. I still see businesses streaming from personal Spotify or Apple Music accounts, or assuming the letters they get from PROs are empty threats. They aren't.

And it isn't only background music. Live bands, DJs and karaoke nights come with their own licensing questions. I launched MusicForBusinessFinder.com in October 2025 to make music licensing simple for small business owners, however they use music.

How we evaluate

Licensing information

Licensing guides are built from primary sources: each PRO's published licensing terms and court records for fines and cases. Every guide shows its sources and a last-reviewed date, and is rechecked every 90 days.

Music providers

Every provider is scored on the same six criteria: licensing coverage, pricing transparency, music quality and curation, ease of use, feature set and customer support.

How we're funded

MusicForBusinessFinder is free to use. We may earn referral commissions or partnership fees from some providers we review, at no extra cost to you. Partners may receive featured placement. Current partners are disclosed on the site where listed.
